Camie
Toronto-based singer/songwriter and multi-award-winning storyteller Camie has long enchanted audiences with her soulful queer-feminist croonings, rich vocal tones, and lush poetic imagination. Combining traditional folk stylings with alternative pop-rock textures, Camie's original story-songs burst with flavour and feeling.
Camie erupted onto the Canadian Folk Music scene with the release of her 2021 alternative folk EP "troubadour," which earned her a 2022 Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award (Folk Music Ontario Awards) and New/Emerging Artist nomination at the 2023 Canadian Folk Music Awards. She had previously won a Hamilton Music Award for earlier work. Her latest album, POEMS IN THE ASHES, combines the poetic lyricism of folk story-songs with soul and sonic palette of alternative pop-rock music. Locating moments of transcendence in dark soundscapes of queer-feminist psycho-sexy horror, POEMS IN THE ASHES is a challenge to, and an extension of, Camie’s carefully curated and critically acclaimed sound.
Camie has performed on stages across Canada and the United Kingdom, including the Canadian Folk Music Awards, Jack Richardson London Music Awards, Pride Toronto, Estonian Music Week, Sofar Sounds, The Fiddlers Elbow, the Dublin Castle, the Doll House Showcase, Home County Music and Art Festival, Winterfolk Blues and Roots Festival, and many more.
Camie is the alternative folk project of Toronto-based multidisciplinary performance artist, Camille Intson. Her projects spanning writing, theatre and performance, new media, and music have received international attention and critical acclaim. She can be found online at @thecamiliad or camilleintson.com.
